Puncture repair ... it's something we don't want to think about, however, most of us have suffered a flat tyre at some stage and it's an inconvenience we can do without.
Size Does Matter
Most punctures are typically caused by sharp metal bits and pieces like small screws or nails. These items have a tendency to cause a puncture that is less than 5mm in diameter. A small hole like this in the tread of your tyre can easily be repaired.
Some punctured tyres can often be past repair and they will need to be replaced. Depending on the part of the tyre where the puncture occurs will determine if your tyre is repairable.
How Long Will It Take
If there is a significant or multiple punctures to the tread or any punctures to the tyre's shoulder or sidewall areas, tyre replacement is the only option. Should your tyre need to be replaced, a new tyre can be fitted, balanced and placed on your vehicle within 12 minutes. A straightforward puncture will usually take around 15 to 20 minutes to fix.
What's Involved
To complete a puncture repair, the flat tyre is removed from the rim, where it will then be thoroughly inspected to make sure it can be repaired. The puncture will then be plugged and tested before the tyre is re-fitted to the rim and balanced. Your wheel will then be fitted to your vehicle and your spare wheel will be returned and secured in its storage area.
