Environmentally friendly tyre disposal is an ever increasing challenge in Australia. Each year, more than 40,000,000 used tyres are disposed of in a less than ideal manner. They may finish their life in landfill, be stockpiled somewhere or worse still, be illegally dumped.

With only approximately 16% of waste tyres being recycled correctly, the NSW Department of Environment and Heritage is extremely serious when it comes to managing what is referred to as waste tyres and tyre disposal.

What the Law Requires

Section 143 of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (NSW) requires that waste tyres must be transported to a place that can lawfully accept them.

We Care Too!

At St Marys Tyre and Wheel Centre, we are just as serious about our impact on the environment and we check where our old, used, waste tyres are being transported to for disposal.

We regularly confirm, in writing, with our waste tyre transporter where our waste tyres are being taken. In addition, we keep records of who transported our waste tyres and at which facility they were disposed of or processed at.

We also keep written statements from our waste transporter and the waste facility where our waste tyres are disposed of or processed.

So if you are as concerned with the environment as we are, rest assured that St Marys Tyre and Wheel Centre is doing all it can to reduce our environmental footprint and be responsible with our tyre disposal.
