Is Covid-19 killing my battery?
Has the Coronavirus pandemic been slowly killing your vehicle’s battery? The short answer is probably “Yes”.
We have all been good citizens and followed the government’s advice of staying home. For the past few months, most of us have only ventured out for those essential shopping trips.
With many people also working from home, there have been a lot of vehicles that have stayed parked on the driveway every day as well. With our cars being driven less, our weekly fuel costs have also reduced. While many of us have been happy to save hundreds of dollars each month, unfortunately, there is a down side.
Use it or lose it!
There are no guarantees, however, the average car battery should last around four years. On the other hand, if you’re lucky, you may get up to six years of hassle-free motoring.
Short, infrequent trips will shorten the life of your battery. This is due to the alternator not having enough time to fully charge the battery. Some batteries need those long trips as they can take up to eight hours to reach a full charge.
Over time, it’s natural for your battery to slowly self discharge. This internal chemical leakage is due to your vehicle needing a constant supply of power to keep all of your electrical systems active. The end result is that if your car is not driven, your battery will eventually die.

We’re all using our cars much less at the moment due to the Covid-19 restrictions. The last thing that anyone wants right now is to end up being stranded by a vehicle that just won’t start.
The saddest part about this story is that when a battery decides not to function anymore, in some cases there are no warning signs ... it just dies.
With winter now being upon us, the colder mornings are also placing additional strain on your battery each time you start your vehicle. Book in for your Covid-19 FREE battery check today.
Safe motoring ... see you in-store soon!
